BSNL Value Added Service GPRS Settings for Handsets

GPRS Settings for Handsets
The customer can use the data services of BSNL over GPRS/EDGE/3G bearer. The data service can be used for HTTP browsing, WAP browsing, downloading or streaming video/audio content and also for sending and receiving MMS. For each of these services an APN (Access Point Name) has to be setup in the customer Handset. The following APNs are now being used:

bsnlnet
This is used for http browsing. It is used for internet browsing with Data Card/Handset from PC/LAPTOP. The handsets having the http browsing support can also use this APN to browse.
bsnllive
This is basically for WAP browsing. It is used for internet browsing or content download from handset.
bsnlstream
This is used to watch all streaming content services like Mobile TV, Video Clips/Audio Clips in BSNL Live and Hello TV.
bsnlmms
This is used for sending and receiving MMS.
  
 
The customer can setup all the APNs or a selected one depending upon the requirement.
The different way of getting the APN settings are described below:
 
Settings over SMS: Customers may send SMS XXX to 58355 to get the GPRS/3G settings. XXX stands for individual keyword for corresponding settings.

Selected settings corresponding to the handset will be pushed to the handset. Customer has to save the settings in the handset. “bsnllive” should preferably be made default setting in the handset.
 
Settings from Website: The settings are also available at website www.cellone.in for downloading to the handsets by the customers. Customer can go to that internet website from the computer and give the mobile number and select the handset. The selected settings will be sent to the handset. These are to be saved.
 
Manual configuration of Settings: The settings corresponding to the handset may be manually set in the handset. The details of Manual settings are given below and are also available in the website www.cellone.in.
 
Settings from Call centre: The settings may also be received from the call centre by dialing 1503. Customers are pushed or guided by them for settings.
 
Setting on TSD: “bsnllive” and “bsnlstream” settings will be sent automatically when a new customer inserts the SIM to the handset for the first time or changes the handset.

Settings for Blackberry Handsets:
 
“blackberry.net” is the default APN for Web browsing in Blackberry handsets. Settings for blackberry subscribers is pushed by the Service Provider (RIM) as BSNL LIVE, BSNL MMS and BSNL Stream service books and gets automatically saved in the handsets. Blackberry device manager can be used for internet browsing from PC/Laptop using blackberry handset. Dial Blackberry Call centre at 1505 (Toll Free) to get more details.

            Manual GPRS settings are listed below for most of the popular models of all major brands along with LAPTOP  GPRS settings .MMS manual settings are given for  category A mobile levels only., for category B change  the settings according to the table given below.   If your mobile model is not found in the list, you can setup your mobile with the generic settings given below with the help of your MOBILE USER MANUAL.

GPRS FAQ

1.                  What is GPRS?

          GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Service. It is a faster way of passing data over a mobile phone network. With GPRS you don't pay for your online time per-minute, you simply pay for the amount of data you transfer.


2.   What is MMS?

MMS stands for Multimedia Messaging Service, commonly known as picture or photo messaging. MMS runs in conjunction with GPRS. This means you must have GPRS enabled in order to have the MMS service working.

3.   How to activate GPRS facility in my mobile?

4. How to set WAP/MMS/GPRS settings in my mobile?

Compose message MobileMake MobileModelno and Send SMS   to 58355 for Automatic GPRS/WAP/MMS settings.

1. Ex: if you have a mobile Nokia 6600
             NOKIA 6600 
2. Ex: if you have a mobile Sony Ericsson w810i
              SonyEricsson w810i
3. Ex: if you have a mobile Samsung sgh-e700
              Samsung sgh-e700

Then you receive 3 or 4 settings save those settings in your mobile and set those settings as default settings. In case if your mobile is prompted for PIN, enter 1111.

   5. I have received 4 GPRS Settings. How to set those settings?

You would be receiving 4 GPRS Settings. They are bsnlwap, bsnlnet, bsnlmms and bsnlportal.  You can set any one of these settings as default (Active)
1. bsnlnet for all html sites, these settings are supported by high end mobiles only. Set these settings as active (default) settings, if your mobile supports.
2. bsnlwap is supported by all mobile. These settings can be used for accessing all WAP enabled sites and mobile formatted Ehtml sites. 
3. bsnlmms settings are for sending Multi media messages. All most all GPRS mobiles support this facility. So set these settings as active (defalult) settings
4. bsnlportal settings are for downloading premium content like Ringtones, wallpapers, animations, themes, games etc. All GPRS mobiles support these settings. Set these settings active (default) for downloading content. Browsing is free for these settings and you would be charged for only the downloaded content

            After your GPRS activation is completed, pl switch off and switch on once for accessing GPRS services.

5. What are the GPRS and MMS tariff details?

6.  Shall I (prepaid Customer) need to maintain Min. Balance to avail GPRS and MMS facility?

  Yes. Minimum Balance is required for accessing GPRS is Rs 50/-

  
  If   balance goes below Rs 50/- GPRS service will be barred.   GPRS service will be restored with in  24 hrs of  after recharging.  The mobile should be turned off and turned on once for restoration.

7. What is MMS and how to compose MMS in my mobile?

Compose MMS
Click Messaging -> Create New Message ->select Multimedia Message Click "Add Photo" and select photo from your photo album  AND/OR
Click "Add Audio" and select ring tone in your audio album  AND/OR
Click "Add Message" to input text    AND/OR
Click "Text Effect" to select font size, color and position  if available
Click "Frame Effect" to select one of the frame from many choices.  if available
click "Preview MMS" to preview your MMS message. .
Click "Save MMS" to finish.
Send MMS

    You can send MMS, when click "Back" after save MMS, or select MMS and click "send MMS".    Click "Next step" and input Mobile Number  or Email ID

You can Send/Receive MMS to all BSNL and MTNL GPRS/MMS subscribers. Others will get MMS Notification (means Text msg ) only.
